Hi, I'm Mary. You might know me from standup comedy or the internet or being an annoying activist or directing unsanctioned live performances of Star Wars or any number of other things. I hate all the social media platforms, they are all bad. Every single one.
Over the last 15 years they have unfortunately become the primary way for many of us to stay in touch with people we love who are not physically near us. Most of the people I love are not physically near me most of the time.
I am an old woman and I remember a time before the social media when we used the internet to meet people with mutual interests and emotionally abuse strangers on message boards. We also shared early memes and discussed at length "Reasons Why Jian Ghomeshi [Is] A Douchebag" years before it was in the Toronto Star. IYKYK.
I made this website because I want to spend less time on the platforms. That's it. I hate giving them my attention and I hate making "content" when all I really want is to exist and talk to people I want to talk to. I hate thinking, "If I post this now, people won't see it, better wait until tomorrow morning or something." Kill the social media manager inside your head.
I want my friends to make blogs, I want to read what they're thinking about and I want to see photos of their breakfasts and vacations but I don't want Zuckerberg involved in any of it.
You have to be a member to read some of the posts because I want to control who my audience is. That's it. I think its wild to have a "personal" blog that's open to the public.
